Sisal Cultivation and Harvesting Support
Plantation management, Farmer training, Planting materials

Carmel Sisal Farm Limited, farming goes beyond cultivation; it is about building a sustainable and inclusive agricultural ecosystem. We manage our own sisal plantations in the fertile Katavi Region with strict adherence to best agronomic practices, ensuring healthy crops and high-yield fibre production. In addition, we actively support local farmers through training programs that cover modern plantation management, soil conservation, pest control, and harvesting techniques, empowering them to improve both productivity and quality. To guarantee long-term sustainability and access to quality inputs, we provide certified sisal planting materials and technical guidance to smallholder growers under our outgrower scheme. This integrated approach not only secures a consistent supply of premium sisal fibre but also uplifts farming communities, strengthens value chains, and promotes shared prosperity across.

Fiber Processing
Extraction, Drying, Brushing, Baling and Grading

Fibre processing is carried out with precision and strict quality standards to ensure that every bale of sisal fibre meets customer expectations. Once harvested, sisal leaves undergo decortication (extraction), where fibre is carefully separated from the pulp using modern and traditional machinery. The extracted fibre is then thoroughly washed and sun-dried under controlled conditions to preserve its natural strength, colour, and durability. After drying, the fibre is brushed to remove impurities and achieve a clean, uniform appearance. It is then carefully baled and compressed into standardized packages for easy handling, storage, and transport. Finally, every batch is graded according to international standards, based on fibre length, strength, colour, and moisture content, ensuring that our customers receive products that are consistent, reliable, and ready for industrial or craft processing. This comprehensive approach to processing allows Carmel Sisal Farm Limited to deliver premium-quality sisal fibre for both domestic and global markets.

Decortication (Fiber Extraction)
Mechanically separating fibre from sisal leaves.

Decortication is the cornerstone of our sisal fibre production process. Using specialized mechanical decorticators, fibres are carefully extracted from freshly harvested sisal leaves to ensure maximum yield and maintain the natural strength of the fibre. This stage is carried out close to the plantations in Katavi Region to preserve fibre freshness and reduce post-harvest losses. Our skilled operators oversee the entire process, ensuring that fibres are separated cleanly from the pulp with minimal damage, thereby producing fibres that are long, strong, and uniform in texture. By combining modern machinery with strict handling protocols, Carmel ensures that the extracted fibres retain their premium quality and are well-prepared for subsequent stages of cleaning, drying, and grading. This emphasis on precision in decortication guarantees that our customers receive sisal fibre that meets international standards for industrial use, crafts, and value-added processing.

Baling and Packaging
Compressing processed fibers into bales for export or local sale.

The baling and packaging represent the final and most critical stages in preparing sisal fibre for delivery to local and international markets. Once fibres have been processed, cleaned, and graded, they are carefully compressed into uniform bales using hydraulic baling machines to ensure consistent weight, density, and moisture balance. Each bale is securely bound with corrosion-resistant strapping materials to maintain integrity during handling, transport, and long-term storage. To meet diverse customer needs, Carmel offers customized bale sizes and packaging options ranging from standard industrial bales for export shipments to smaller units for local manufacturers and craft producers. Every bale is properly labelled with batch codes, grade, and production details, ensuring full traceability and quality assurance. This meticulous approach to baling and packaging guarantees that our sisal fibre arrives in pristine condition, ready for use in rope making, mats, bags, composites, and other value-added applications, while reinforcing Carmel Sisal Farm Limited’s reputation as a reliable supplier of premium Tanzanian sisal.
